What is an Intervention

There are almost as many Intervention Groups as there are Rehabilitation Centers and like Rehabilitation Centers they are not all successful.

An Intervention is when you hire a professionally trained person to come to you to help convince your loved one that they need help and get them into a Rehabilitation Center. When looking for an Intervention there are several thing you need to know. First you need a highly qualified team, normally this is not going to be your pastor, or a local therapist that is willing to "give it a shot" remember this may be your only chance to get your loved one the treatment they need. If the Intervention is not done right and the addict does not go into treatment, death or jail are usually not far behind.

A true Intervention Team will come to you and spend the first day of the Intervention working with the family. ( not just a couple of hours, a family can not be prepared for what is to come in just a short time frame.) This is needed for several reasons, First; the Intervention will be harder on the family then it will be on the addict. The family has to be prepared to set lines and if the Intervention goes to the bottom line the family has to be able to stand firm and hold the bottom line.

Second; the family will need support, someone to call after the Intervention is complete and questions come up, or if the Intervention fails the family will need an Intervention team that will be there after the Intervention to answer questions and guide the family though the tough times to follow. When an Intervention fails it does not mean it is over, the bottom lines are set not to be mean to the addict but to create a need in the addicts life. This need is something he or she can not have with out the family and the family will not support that need unless the addict goes into a treatment program first.

The truth of the matter is, there are people that do interventions that will not do what is needed. They come to you in the afternoon and by 6 they are ready to do the intervention and if it failed or not they are on the next plane out of town and never heard from again. They have another job to do and will take as little time as possible out of their schedule to complete the Intervention and get back to work.

You need a professional Intervention Team, one where Interventions are all they do.
